This academic certificate is offered by the Statistics Department. It was developed for graduate students majoring in disciplines other than statistics who wish to develop competency in statistics. Students are not required to be actively pursuing a graduate degree in order to participate in the certificate program but must satisfy graduate admission requirements at the University of Idaho. The certificate program is designed to give students a background in the statistical methods that are applicable to their major fields of study.

Certificate Coordinator: Chris Williams, Ph.D.

All students must contact the certificate coordinator to discuss background qualifications prior to starting the certificate. The certificate coordinator is a faculty member who will advise you before you declare for the certificate and while you are taking courses.

Certificate Application Prerequisite:
All students must have completed an undergraduate degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

▼ Steps to Get Started and Complete This Certificate
Follow these steps to apply and complete this certificate:
  1. New Students: Students will need to apply online for admission as a Graduate Level/Academic Certificate student. There is a $30.00 fee for this application. You will also need to submit unofficial transcripts to Graduate Admissions that show you have completed a B.S. degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students who have below a 3.0 cumulative GPA on their undergraduate record and wish to enroll in a graduate certificate program should contact the academic department or certificate coordinator before applying.

    Certificate-only students will be classified as certificate seeking at the graduate level and are not eligible for financial aid.  International graduate certificate applicants must meet the University of Idaho language requirement. Due to the nature of these programs, immigration regulations prohibit students requiring an F-1 or J-1 visa admission to certificate-only programs.   

    Current Graduate Students: Students already admitted as graduate students need to complete a graduate change of admission form (the bottom of page 2 of the Change of Curriculum form) to add a Graduate Academic Certificate as an additional curriculum to their study plan. Proper signatures will be needed from the department and turned in at the Registrar's Office for processing.

    Current Undergraduate and Non-degree Students: Current undergraduate students may earn a Graduate Academic Certificate if they are eligible to participate in graduate level courses. Non-degree students are not admitted to the College of Graduate Studies. They may, however, take graduate courses with permission of the instructor and the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies if they provide proof that they have earned a baccalaureate degree with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.

      Certificate Policy:
      • A grade of 'B' or higher is required in all coursework for certificates offered by the College of Engineering.
      • Coursework must not be more than five years old unless it is being used in conjunction with the completion of a graduate degree.
      • Students may use up to three approved transfer credits toward the certificate with departmental approval.
